Term: RDF

Definition:
Resource Description Framework (RDF) is a W3C specification for a metadata data model in the form of subject-predicate-object expressions. This RDF triple has been extended from its original use to describe resources available on the Internet to become an information modeling tool that underlies the W3C's Semantic Web. An important aspect to RDF is that it presents metadata in a model that is machine readable; providing interoperability between applications in the exchange of that metadata.
