Term: Compression, lossless

Definition:
Data compressed using a lossless compression technique will allow the decompressed data to be exactly the same as the original data before compression, bit for bit. The compression of data is achieved by coding redundant data in a more efficient manner than in the uncompressed format. The Compression ratios that can be achieved with lossless compression are generally much lower than those that can be achieved using lossy compression techniques.
